What started out as an idea over coffee has turned into a profitable, growing business with customers from around the globe. Harpoon is a SaaS product that helps freelancers manage their finances and bill their clients. As Design Director I've been responsible for every aspect of the company's marketing and product design. Each feature of Harpoon is carefully considered and meticulously crafted.
Beyond traditional design responsibilities my duties with the company also include planning the product's feature roadmap, managing requirements for the development team, contributing to customer support, content marketing, and even sales. Being involved in every aspect of the business has contributed to my holistic approach to design, taking into account variables far beyond the visual.
As Crushpath's Design Director I led a team of designers and front-end developers as we built a new sales platform from the ground up. This included Crushpath's marketing materials, a web application, a native iOS app, and an online sales network for Crushpath's customers.
I coordinated and helped execute every aspect of the design process, from brainstorming and wireframes, to prototypes and production code. Within months of launch the product saw 50,000 new customers, helping the company raise $12M+ in funding.
Find Bacon eliminates the need for designers and developers to search hundreds of job boards by bringing all the best jobs to one location. As the Product Designer my goal was to make it as easy as possible for users to quickly search the site based on their skill set, location, etc. I also designed an employer subscription service to allow companies to post their openings directly to Find Bacon.
Designers and developers can also subscribe to email alerts based on their job preferences. A combination of branding, a delightful user experience, mobile optimization, consistent design iterations, and just plain usefulness has gained Find Bacon thousands of users as the product has risen above hundreds of other job sites to a consistent top five ranking on Google. Design makes a difference.
The goal with Share the Shelf was to design a community site where signups could create their own accounts, showcase their used books, and easily trade their books with others on the site. As the Product Designer I took a minimalist approach to the visual design, using elegant typography and allowing the existing art on the book covers themselves to do the heavy lifting.
The site harnesses Amazon's affiliate program, and I designed an interface that ties directly into Amazon's book database, making it extremely easy to add new books to your account by simply typing a few letters in most cases. This was essential to removing friction from the most important part of the onboarding process. The end result is an elegant and fun way to trade your used books.
